About
St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church was founded in 1981 when a group of faithful parishioners met with Fr. James Tavlarides of Holy Trinity to discuss the growing need for an Orthodox parish in the East Valley.
In June 1982, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated at Bustoz Elementary School. The following September, the parish received its first assigned priest, Fr. Sam Poulos. That November, a special assembly was held to determine the future location of the parish, and property was purchased for a permanent church home.
By January 1983, Divine Liturgy was being celebrated on the newly acquired property. Over the years, the parish community has continued to grow and flourish.
Our current church building began in 2006, when ground was broken for the new edifice. The formal Door Opening Celebration was held in 2008, marking a major milestone in the life of the parish.
As our parish continues to grow, we now look toward completing the vision of our founders through the monumental task of finishing the church’s iconography and, ultimately, consecrating the храм. This sacred work is only possible through the support and generosity of the faithful who worship here each week.
Thank you for considering being part of this holy work and contributing to the continuing history of St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church.
