Patriarch Isaac, son of Abraham. The righteous figure of the Old Testament whose miraculous birth demonstrated God's power over nature and time. His willing submission to God's will during the intended sacrifice prefigures Christ's redemptive sacrifice. Venerated in the Orthodox Church as a forefather of faith. His icon in the altar testifies to the continuity of God's covenant with His people.
