Jesse of Bethlehem, ancestor of Christ. Father of King David and righteous figure of the Old Testament whose lineage fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 11:1: 'There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse.' Commemorated among the Forefathers of Christ. His sacred genealogy prefigures the Incarnation of our Lord, and he is venerated as a patriarch in the line leading to the Virgin Mary and the birth of Christ.
